Before you go about fixing various torrents problems, how do you know when those problems arise in the first place? You might see your torrents not downloading anymore or stuck on connecting to peers. Your download speed could drop to zero. You might even see some specific errors coming from your torrent client or antivirus software. The following steps will help you resolve all these situations in no time.
The point of firewalls is to prevent unauthorized connections from entering your network and thus keeping all kinds of bots and malware out of your systems. If you have a specific reason for downloading something through BitTorrent, you can ask your network administrator to whitelist your torrent client for some time. You could also have a firewall feature turned on your Mac. In this case, disabling it will likely let the torrent client downloads go through:. Lastly, since torrent connections are often unsafe, your antivirus could proactively block them as well.
By the way, scanning your Mac for viruses and other malware spyware, adware, etc. And the best way to do it is by using CleanMyMac X. CleanMyMac X is a truly powerful Mac optimizer packaged in a dead-simple and intuitive interface.
This utility will help you delete old files, clean up your hard drive, speed up your Mac, enhance your privacy, and find any malware with just a single click. You can also simply go for a Smart Scan and get a full report on how your Mac can be instantly improved. Most torrent clients today have a download limit option that could be enabled by default. Increasing this limit might help with the torrent not downloading files properly. If so, it could have something to do with torrent connection issues.
In general, your torrent speed is affected the most by the number of peers who are seeding the torrent file to you. In many countries, ISPs are legally obligated to tell the studios who you are. Note: Some VPN services are free but, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Firstly, you need to make sure your Windows Firewall or anti-virus app is not blocking your uTorrent.
Although the uTorrent setup wizard will automatically add an exception for uTorrent in Windows Firewall, sometimes this will fail due to your third-party antivirus settings. If your antivirus app is doing an excellent job, it may take over control over your Windows Firewall and block your uTorrent, thus causing uTorrent not downloading issues.
If your uTorrent is stuck on connecting to peers , it can be a temporary stale download caused by outdated seeders or trackers. This will immediately check for more peers.
Then navigate to the uTorrent folder and delete the file named resume. The culprit can be uTorrent settings such as ports not working, you can run a quick test and let uTorrent adjust its settings automatically. Some of the configurations of uTorrent will interfere with your internet connection, thus causing the uTorrent not downloading issues.
Here is how to fix it:. This can check if this issue is related to a network problem. The other issue it is not just the proxy enabled there are a bunch of other features enabled for privacy along with proxy. Yes, lower it to a speed where the "Connection timed out" would have shown by.
The ETA column will, of course, assist in how long the download will take for a set speed. You can download Slackware with your proxy enabled if you wish. If you get a "Connection timed out", I'd guess the proxy is guilty I might be completely wrong though.
It seems to have worked. How long will this work though? Once you're satisfied everything is working as it should, then you can delete those 2 files you moved - it's not like they're HDD space hoggers. Each should only be around Thanks for your help. It seems to be solved.
If not I will just repeat at every failure. Now to fix the new problem. Windows randomly stopping recognizing my external hd. I'm back with the findings, settings reset didn't help much. BUT I found something interesting Slackware has been downloading second day without any issues through the proxy.
However, rarbg tracker still has Connection timed out issues. I found this old thread but there was no solution. Slackware has been downloading second day without any issues through the proxy.
Does rarbg have "Connection timed out" without the proxy? I'm guessing your proxy is the cause. I will test, but I will assume it is working without proxy for now. How can it be a proxy issue if when I update just UPnP preferences I can connect with no issues for some time?
I suspect some UDP protocol configuration in uTorrent itself is fishy to keep the connection alive through a proxy. I'm sure there'd be hundreds and hundreds of similar threads if uTorrent was at fault.
I did that, surprisingly most torrent clients have the same codebase or using the same libraries I guess. Start new topic. Prev 1 2 Next Page 1 of 2. Recommended Posts.
